How to Choose a ChatGPT Alternative for Your Actual Work
7 min read Updated
The choice is not settled by a feature table or a benchmark score. It is settled by matching your workload against what each assistant documents. The direct answer, from the documentation checked on 5 October 2026: SentX fits non-confidential work that benefits from starting without an account, and Claude fits organized project knowledge where documented memory controls matter. Both descriptions are first-party, SentX publishes this article, and neither is a universal winner. Two questions decide before any testing begins: what you must never hand over, and what must survive between sessions. Run those two screens first, test the survivors on your own material, and price the winner at your real weekly volume.

Privacy comes first because most professional work touches something you cannot afford to lose: client names, unpublished results, internal figures. Vendor terms differ in ways that matter. SentX's published privacy policy states plainly that submissions are not confidential, that retained interaction representations can enter shared memory, and that submitted information can influence other users' interactions, and that account deletion does not promise removal of material already incorporated there. By its own terms, SentX is disqualified for confidential work before performance is even discussed. That screen rests entirely on the written terms; memory controls are a separate question.
Claude's current documentation describes topic memory that is on by default and can be inspected, edited, and deleted under Settings > Memory, or paused and reset entirely — a documented control, not a statement about how the underlying data is handled. Claude's confidentiality, retention, and training suitability must be determined from its current privacy terms, which this article has not checked. Neither vendor description is a legal conclusion. If a vendor's terms conflict with your confidentiality needs, stop there.

Write down your last three real tasks
Benchmarks measure averages; your job measures specifics. Take the three tasks you would actually hand an assistant this month — a research paper to distill into question, method, results, and limitations; a client deliverable drafted from uploaded files; a project spanning weeks that needs continuity. Each task names the capabilities that matter to you: document handling, source-traceable research, memory controls, media generation if you produce visuals. Tasks you never do are irrelevant, however impressive their feature pages.
Feed every candidate the same material
This is a proposed procedure, not a measured result — its value is in running it yourself, not in trusting anyone's write-up of it. Use non-sensitive sample material only, and record four things per candidate.
- Continuity. Plant a distinctive detail in one session, return days later in a fresh conversation, and note whether it surfaces unprompted, only when cued, or is gone. Correct it once and see whether the correction sticks.
- Controls. Open the memory settings and confirm you can view, correct, and delete what is stored. Claude's current documentation notes that deleting a conversation does not automatically remove related memory entries; individual memories must be deleted separately.Source: Use Claude chat search and memory to build on previous context
- Traceability. Ask for a summary of a source you have open, then match every load-bearing number and causal claim against the original. The characteristic failure to hunt is unsupported extrapolation.
- Uncertainty. Withhold a detail the task seems to need and ask anyway. A supported response is "not supplied," not a confident invention.
Score by column, not by a single number
Six columns, one row per candidate — do not collapse them into a score, because a single number hides which weakness matters to you.
- Context re-fed per session, counted as an observable number of what you had to re-explain.
- Continuity, as dated moments of unprompted awareness and their absence.
- Controls, meaning what the memory settings actually let you do.
- Source traceability, meaning whether you can get from a summary back to the original passage.
- Uncertainty handling, meaning whether it withheld or invented.
- Current task cost, meaning your weekly volume at the vendor's pricing as of the day you measure. SentX's pricing page displayed Free at 10 messages per day and Plus at 200 per day for $20 monthly or $199 yearly when checked on 5 October 2026; Claude's Pro plan listed $20 monthly in the US with regional variation. Both numbers age quickly — recheck on decision day.Source: SentX pricing and plan scope; What is the Pro plan?
Staying put is a valid outcome. If your current assistant clears all six columns, switching is a cost, not a gain.
What the checked documents establish
Both vendors' pages were checked on 5 October 2026. This is a documentation comparison, not a head-to-head test: it records what each vendor states, and marks what this reviewed set does not cover. SentX publishes this article; Claude's confidentiality, retention, and training terms were not checked here, and they stand as open questions rather than established gaps.
SentX's documented position:
- Account access. Anonymous chat starts without signup; registering raises the chat allowance and adds account history. Media generation requires sign-in.Source: SentX access and media allowances
- Registered allowances. Free displays 10 messages per day; Plus displays 200 per day at $20 monthly or $199 yearly. A registered account includes three images and one 480p video of up to five seconds, each once per account; Plus includes 10 images each paid billing cycle and no video allowance. Further media uses a wallet unless an eligible Plus image allowance applies — check the pricing page for current plan eligibility before assuming per-use charges.Source: SentX access and media allowances; SentX pricing and plan scope
- Projects or continuity. No project grouping is documented. Memory is described as selective, and SentX's own pages say important task details should be restated.Source: SentX access and media allowances
- Memory controls. Inspect, edit, delete, pause, or reset functions are not documented in this reviewed set.Source: SentX access and media allowances
- Consumer-versus-API billing. API usage is billed separately from the chat plans.Source: SentX pricing and plan scope
Its pages also document in-chat document and PDF creation and live web research, as first-party descriptions rather than measured performance.

Claude's documented position:
- Account access. A free consumer version exists in supported locations and requires email signup.Source: What is the Pro plan?
- Registered allowances. Pro offers more usage than Free, longer multi-step tasks, and Claude Code access; no per-plan message count appears in this reviewed set. Pro is listed at $20 monthly in the US, with regional pricing and taxes varying.Source: What is the Pro plan?
- Projects or continuity. Projects group related chats with uploaded knowledge; Free accounts can create up to five projects, and enhanced retrieval for larger project knowledge is documented for paid plans. A separate beta is rolling out to selected users, not everyone.Source: What are projects?
- Memory controls. Topic memory is on by default for Free, Pro, and Max. Topics can be inspected, edited, and deleted under Settings > Memory, or memory paused and reset. Deleting a conversation does not automatically remove related memory entries; individual memories must be deleted separately. Paid plans add search over past chats.Source: Use Claude chat search and memory to build on previous context
- Consumer-versus-API billing. Pro does not include API usage; API billing is separate.Source: What is the Pro plan?
Anything either vendor has not documented — speed, accuracy rates, retention beyond the stated terms — remains unknown, not absent.
How the screens route two kinds of work
This example is editorial reasoning applied to the documented positions above, not a measured outcome. Two plausible readers, screened the same way.
A writer producing public marketing copy — product blurbs, social posts, help-text drafts — touches nothing confidential and wants to start today without creating an account. Screen one passes by construction, and screen two matters little because each piece is self-contained. Within this pair, SentX is the only option that opens without signup, and its documented non-confidentiality limit sits comfortably with work that contains nothing private. On access alone, the fit points to SentX.

A manager running a multi-week client project — accumulating specs, decisions, and files — needs the assistant to hold named topics between sessions and to let them correct or delete what it holds. Screen one comes first and is unresolved here: this article did not check Claude's current privacy terms, so confidential work stops there until those terms are read. If the work clears that screen, screen two is where the documented difference lands. Claude's topic memory is inspectable, editable, deletable, pausable, and resettable, and its projects group related chats with uploaded knowledge, up to five on Free. SentX documents no comparable controls in this reviewed set, and its own pages say important task details should be restated. On documented controls, the fit points to Claude.

Neither routing is a verdict for other workloads; it shows the two screens doing their job on two different jobs.
Keep the record: a dated log of what survived, screenshots of the memory settings, a pricing snapshot. When terms change, and they do, you rerun the same test instead of starting over. The method will not tell you which assistant wins; it tells you whether the one you picked can prove it on your work.

Supported claims and limits
- The homepage documents free chat without signup, account history after registration, web research, document/PDF creation and image/video tools. These are first-party descriptions, not measured performance.
- Its described memory is selective and changes over time; neither complete recall nor confidentiality follows from remembered conversation.
- Victoria Model Card | Capabilities, Evidence and Limits | SentX — SentX
Supported claims and limits
- SentX describes Victoria as its foundation model, trained and running in Dubai, UAE.
- The card is a first-party product disclosure; it does not assert an independently verified underlying model version, model size, training-data inventory or benchmark score.
- SentX Privacy Policy — SentX
Supported claims and limits
- The published policy says submissions are not confidential, retained interaction representations can enter shared memory, and submitted information can influence other users interactions.
- Account deletion does not promise removal of material already incorporated into shared memory or model weights. This is a description of the published policy, not a legal conclusion or tested deletion guarantee.
- SentX access and media allowances — SentX
Supported claims and limits
- Live page checked: anonymous chat starts without signup; registered Free access has a higher chat allowance and account history. Media generation requires sign-in.
- A registered Free account includes three images and one 480p video of up to five seconds with no reference-video input, each once per account; these allowances do not reset. Plus includes 10 images each paid billing cycle and no video allowance. Further media uses the wallet.
- The page says memory is selective and important task details should be restated. It does not establish superiority over another assistant.
- SentX pricing and plan scope — SentX
Supported claims and limits
- The pricing page shows Free at 10 messages a day and Plus at 200 messages a day for USD 20 monthly or USD 199 yearly. These registered-plan limits are separate from anonymous access.
- Plus includes 10 images each paid billing cycle; videos use the wallet after the free allowance. API usage is billed separately.
- What is the Pro plan? — Anthropic
Supported claims and limits
- Claude has a free consumer version for supported locations requiring email signup.
- Pro offers more usage than Free, Claude Code access and longer multi-step tasks.
- The page lists US monthly Pro pricing at $20, with regional pricing/taxes and change caveats.
- Pro does not include API usage; API billing is separate.
- Evidence limits: Verified 5 October 2026. Listed prices can change, and the consumer subscription is billed separately from API usage.
- What are projects? — Anthropic
Supported claims and limits
- Claude projects support related chats and uploaded knowledge/context.
- Free accounts can create up to five projects.
- Enhanced retrieval for larger project knowledge is documented for paid plans.
- Evidence limits: Current consumer documentation also describes a separate beta rolling out to selected users, so not every account has it.
- Use Claude chat search and memory to build on previous context — Anthropic
Supported claims and limits
- Current Claude memory stores individual topics during chats; it is on by default for Free, Pro and Max.
- Paid plans separately have search over past chats.
- Users can inspect/edit/delete topics under Settings > Memory, or pause/reset memory.
- Deleting a conversation in the current experience does not automatically remove related memory entries; individual memories can be deleted.
- Evidence limits: These claims come from the page's main current section, not the legacy section below it. The same page still describes historical 24-hour summary behavior, which differs from current topic memory. Organizational controls differ.
